Warts are small skin growths caused by a virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). Warts result from an infection in the topmost layer of the skin. It is common amongst children but adults can get warts too. Moreover, people with a weakened immune system are more prone to the virus that causes warts. Generally, skin warts are not painful but they can be contagious and unpleasant to look at. They can spread to other parts of the body or even to your loved ones. To treat skin warts effectively, early consultation with an expert homeopath is recommended.

What causes skin warts?

Skin warts typically occur when a person touches something that has been infected by the HPV virus. However, most warts spread from person-to-person contact. It is more likely to affect a person with a compromised immune system. They can grow anywhere on the skin but you're more likely to get one on your hands or legs. Also, the appearance and location of the wart can define the type of wart it is. Some of the different types of warts are as follows:

  • Common Warts

These commonly occur on fingers or hands. Sometimes common warts can also develop on nails, toes and knees. These are grainy in texture and can vary in size from a pinhead to pea-size.

  • Plantar Warts

This type of wart grows on the soles of the feet. Unlike other warts, plantar warts grow into your feet. This is because the pressure from walking flattens them. They are hard, grainy and can also develop in clusters.

  • Genital Warts

These are small, soft growths in the genital area. This virus is passed on through direct skin-to-skin contact with someone who has human papillomavirus on their skin. They cause no additional symptoms but they can be painful or itchy.

  • Periungual warts

These are usually formed under the toenails or fingernails. Periungual warts can cause discomfort and can also affect nail growth. The location of these warts makes them difficult to treat.

While some may tell you to let warts heal on their own, some can be painful, stubborn and also have a chance of spreading. Therefore, it is best advised to get them treated instead. The doctor can simply diagnose warts by looking at the bumps. In some cases, your skin doctor may also suggest a skin biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment for Skin Warts

The conventional treatment for warts includes surgery, freezing therapy, immunotherapy or laser treatment. These can cause blisters and also leave scars. Moreover, conventional treatments do not work on the recurrence of warts. Homeopathy, on the other hand, is an effective and safe way to treat warts. The goal of homeopathic medicine is not just to treat skin warts but also to avoid recurrence. For lasting results, homeopathy helps to enhance your immune system so that your body is able to fight the virus on its own.

In a double-blind, placebo controlled trial conducted by the Winchester Hospital. 174 participants were tested a homeopathic treatment for warts over a period of 6 weeks. This trial found certain homeopathic remedies to be appropriate for use and had a positive result.
