HOMOEOPATHY IN THE HEAT

HOMOEOPATHY IN THE HEAT

DR BATRA SHARES A FEW HOMOEOPATHIC REMIDIES FOR HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES LIKE PRIKLY HEAT, HYPERACIDITY, GAS AND HEAT HEADACHES

Staying healthy in the heat

Heat can trigger an array of problems-from an upset stomach or summer diarrhoea to the common rash, prickly heat, and a host of other complaints. Here are a few homoeopathic remedies for common heat-induced infirmities

Diarrhoea

When the heat is really on, diarrhoea comes without an invitation. Arsenicum Album, Veratrum Album are both effective in case of diarrhoea caused by in-fected food. Podophyllum is best used to treat early morning diarrhoea, especially in infants. Dulcamara is for when diarrhoea is brought on by any change of weather. Mercurius Cor-rosivus is also valuable in severe forms of the complaint.

Hyperacidity and gas

Hyperacidity and gas go on overdrive in the heat. While simple forms of acidity respond to Calcarea Carbonica, the more intense forms respond to Phosphorus. Nux Vomica is useful when people tend to overeat rich, fatty food, or consume too much alcohol and also smoke heavily, at social parties.

Cold and fever

For cold and fever conditions, Ferrum Phosphoricum is a useful first remedy. Other important remedies include Gelsemium, Belladonna, Baptisia and Rhus Toxicoden-dron. One may also consider preventative treatment for measles, mumps and jaundice in consultation with a homeopathic physi-cian.

Prickly heat and fungal infections

Jaborandi is one of the most effective remedies for prickly heat. It may be taken, in its mother tincture form, in drop doses, inter-nally, and applied locally as lotion. Although most forms of fungal infections respond to Chrysarobic Acid and Graphites, it is best to solicit the guidance of a homeopathic physi-cian to elicit good results for any given sum-mer complaint.

Heat headaches and exhaustion

Heat exhaustion and summer headaches are best treated with Natrum Carbonicum. For sunstroke, Glonoine is suggested to be a useful remedy, along with local measures or medical intervention.

Self-Help

Maintain a regular, simple, nourish-ing and balanced diet plan.

'Soft drinks and alcohol are best avoided.

The use of cotton socks is perfect, especially for those who sweat profusely. Dust feet with mild talc before wearing shoes. Sandals make ideal summer footwear.

Exposure to pollutants should be avoided, as also predisposing factors that may lead to summer diseases.

Cold water bath, twice daily, is beneficial.

In case of symptoms that do not respond to simple remedial measures, or treat-ment, in 24-48 hours, consult your doctor-promptly
