Homeopathy treats UTI

Homeopathy treats UTI

2 6-year-old Sushmita complained of burning pain during urination a month after her marriage. She had taken a course of antibiotics, which hadn't helped. Her condition was diagnosed as "Honeymoon Cystitis," which is the commonest cause of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in a newly married female. A few doses of Staphysagria (an excellent remedy for honeymoon cystitis) was given, Which helped her to get rid of her UTI.

UTI is a serious health problem affecting millions of people and accounting for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year. It is estimated that 40% women and more than 10% men face UTI sometimes in their life. In females, there is an increased incidence during pregnancy. Elderly men are at increased risk clue to prostate and bladder conditions.

Administering antibiotics and urine alkalisers is the usual line of treatment in the conventional system, which may give symptomatic relief, but does not help in addressing the cause.

Homeopathic remedies, on the other hand, are prescribed by individualising every case, taking into consideration the underlying cause. For example, Arnica is good for cystitis after injury, while Sabal Serrulata helps to treat cystitis due to prostate enlargement. Populus Tremuloides is useful in treating cystitis during pregnancy.

Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or coffee as these may irritate the bladder. Do not hold urine for a long time and maintain genital hygiene. Emptying the bladder after sexual intercourse helps in preventing the entry of organisms into the urethra. Include vitamin C rich fruits like lemon and orange as clinical studies have shown that these help in the treatment and prevention of UTIs. In cases of recurrent UTI, diseases like diabetes need to be ruled out.
