It is said that a photographer’s portfolio is a reflection of his soul. The father and son team of Dr. Mukesh and Dr. Akshay Batra put theirs on display in a remarkable collection of photo-compositions entitled “Magic Momentsâ€Â.
The show preview was held at Kitab Mahal and was attended by the city’s elite personalities. Guests who were spotted include Pritish Nandy, Shaina NC, Rajiv Bajaj, Nisha Jamvwal, Anil Dharkar, Raell Padamsee, Asha Patel, Milon Mukerjee, Bakul Patel, Farid Karim, Ananya Dutta, Satish Mathur, Pradeep Jain amongst others.
Dr Batra's™ annual photography exposition has become a fixture on the city’s art calendar. Landscape composition has been the leitmotif of these shows. Here too the central theme was the glories of nature captured in all her many moods from different locales around the world. The exhibition testifies not only to the eye of the photographer but also to a love for travel. Subjects range from Swiss peaks to Canadian waterfalls and sunrises in Nepal. Imposing mountains salute a dying sun, dappled water serenely reflect the sky, the King of the jungle stretches in all his magnificence as picturesque locales rub shoulders with jungle animals in this remarkable collection of photo compositions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mukesh Batra said, “Although my first passion is medicine, I am completed by my second love, photography. What binds these two interests is the goal to help people be happy. I have had no formal training in photography. It was friends like Atul Kasbekar and Farzana Contractor that provided inspiration and advice. For me, photography ensures an equilibrium of body and mind. It keeps me connected to the incredible even when mired in the mundane. It gives me a life beyond medicine.â€Â
Dr. Akshay Batra added, “I am thrilled to be teaming up with my dad for the first time as an artist. It has taught me to experience and share the wonder of life and nature and realize how blessed we are.â€Â
Artist Ananya Banerjee said, “It has been a wonderful experience working with Dr. Batra and understanding the thoughtful human being behind one of the finest entrepreneurial doctors. The process of coalescing art with photography has been rejuvenating and experimental from an artist’s point of view. I look forward to a generous response so that the twin charities may benefit.“
Works from Dr. Batra’s previous exhibitions have adorned the Raj Bhavan and other prestigious homes and offices. This year, proceeds from the show will be shared between ‘Happy Home & School for the Blind’ with whom Dr. Batra has been long associated, and ‘People for Animals’, India’s largest animal welfare organization.
The exhibition will be open for public viewing on the 20th of March at the same venue between 10 am to 7 pm. The photographs will also be available for sale at all Dr Batra'sâ„¢ clinics in Mumbai after the 20th of March. Prices begin from Rs. 500/- onwards.
