Does breathlessness keep you up all night? Has your work efficiency gone down because of asthma? Are you facing problems doing simple routine work? Don’t worry. Your life need not stop because you have asthma! You can heal it with Homoeopathy!

Asthma is a disorder characterised by narrowing of the airways leading to decreased air flow causing breathlessness, wheezing and coughing. While for some people it can be a minor nuisance, in some people it can be life threatening. Asthma can occur in individuals of all ages, but having it in the family puts one at a higher risk.

Certain environmental conditions like exposure to dust and pollutants, change of weather, exposure to animal dander, prolonged exposure to stressful events can trigger asthmatic attacks. Asthma also is more prone in the people already suffering from allergies like atopic dermatitis (skin allergy) or allergic rhinitis (recurrent colds).

How does it present?

Asthma symptoms vary from person to person.

One may have infrequent attacks due to excessive exercising or excessive stress, or may have symptoms all the time.

The characteristic symptoms of asthma are shortness of breath, breathlessness, wheezing, chest tightness or pain, sleep disturbances caused by coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath.

Can it be treated?

While asthma can't be cured completely, it definitely can be controlled. Diagnosing and treating asthma early can help prevent lung damage in the long run and can prevent the condition from worsening over time.

The frequency and intensity of symptoms reduce with continued treatment of asthma and the individual can go on with his day to day activities without any hassles.

As compared to conventional therapies like broncho dilators and anti allergins which can cause long term side effects, alternative therapies like homeopathy have been known to give long term benefit without any adverse effects.

Asthma & homoeopathy

How can homoeopathy help asthma patients? Well, homeopathic medications help not only treat the symptoms of the disease but the person itself.

Homeopathic medications help understand the psyche of the person, the way the symptoms of the illness affect the person and the way the person reacts to life generally.

It works at improving the immunity of the individual, thereby controlling the hypersensitivity reaction to the external stimulus, thus bringing about a reduction in the symptoms.

A few common remedies that can help in asthma are:

•        Blatta Orientalis :

When patients develop asthma in damp environments or are sensitive to moulds and insects, Blatta is a remedy that could be considered. These patients complain an aggravation of symptoms on exertion or ascending activities. Obesity with Asthma is one of the symptoms that indicate this medication.

•        Ipe Cacuanha:

If asthma is associated with nausea or vomiting, Ipe Cac is a remedy that can be  thought of. These patients present with a constant cough with gagging or vomiting, worse in warm weather and better in open air. It is an indicated remedy   in childhood asthma.

•      Sambucus Nigra :

This medication is indicated when the person experiences severe suffocative sensation, worse after midnight around 3 am. There are  severe spasms of the airways causing the patient to wake up frightened. Excessive perspiration accompanies these symptoms.

•      Arsenic Alb :

This homeopathic medication can be given when asthmatic attacks worsen after  midnight. There is marked fear of suffocation, worse on lying down which makes the patient sit up all night. Severe burning in the chest is accompanied with   shortness of breath.

 •      Natrum Sulphuricum :

This medicine is useful in asthma of both children and adults. It helps asthmatic patients who develop symptoms in association with a period of grief. Asthmatic symptoms worse before menstruation also indicates the use of this medication. The symptoms are worse in damp weather be it hot or cold, fog or storm.

These medications though indicated need to be taken only after guidance of a qualified homeopathic Consultant. Self medications are not advisable as can lead to harmful repercussions.
