Childhood Obesity Diagnosis
- BMI: as a part of regular child health programmes, our doctors calculate the child's BMI and determine where it falls on the BMI-for-age growth chart. BMI helps to indicate whether the child is overweight for his or her age and height.
In addition to BMI and charting weight on growth charts, the doctor also evaluates the following:
- family history of obesity and weight-related health problems, such as diabetes;
- child's eating habits;
- child's activity level; and
- other health conditions that the child may have.
Our doctors may order blood tests if they suspect any hormonal disorders. They may also test for any disorders that can be caused as a result of childhood obesity, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.
